Former CPI(M) legislator K.C. Rajagopalan on Monday launched a scathing attack on the party’s local leadership in Pathanamthitta following the party’s defeat in the Mezhuveli grama panchayat and the erosion of its majority in Ward 8.
Mr. Rajagopalan said he would submit a formal complaint to the party leadership against the Kozhencherry area secretary, alleging organisational lapses and a leadership style that, according to him, prioritised pleasing higher committees over maintaining grassroots connections.
He said he had expected to win Ward 8 of the local body with a comfortable margin, but alleged that multiple factors, including external interference, worked against him. Referring to the district conference held on December 30, 2024, Mr. Rajagopalan said he was removed from the district committee and claimed that celebrations were organised by party workers close to the area secretary on that occasion as well as after the LDF lost power in Mezhuveli.
“The party itself pulled the rug from under my feet,” he alleged, adding that there were interventions even from higher levels of the leadership. Mr. Rajagopalan said he suspected the role of the area secretary in the developments and questioned his competence.
He further alleged that the prevailing organisational culture within the party was one of appeasing leaders rather than engaging with people at the grassroots. He said he would raise all these issues in a written complaint, naming the area secretary, and submit it to the party leadership.
