Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday announced a substantial hike in the monthly stipend paid to police constables undergoing training to ₹12,500 from the existing ₹4,500 during a programme in which appointment letters were given away to 5,757 constables inducted into the Andhra Pradesh Police.
Handing over the appointment letters to the newly inducted constables at the APSP 6th Battalion parade ground near the DGP office in Mangalagiri, Mr. Naidu described the moment as a decisive step towards restoring trust, transparency and strength in the State’s law enforcement system.
Addressing the gathering after distributing the appointment letters, Mr. Naidu said the NDA-led coalition government had fulfilled its promise of providing jobs to the youth soon after coming to power.
The long-pending court cases related to police recruitment were resolved after the coalition government assumed office, enabling the issue of appointment letters to the candidates who had waited for nearly four years.
The constables, he said, would join active duty immediately after completing their training.
The Chief Minister asserted that during his tenure, 23,676 police jobs had been provided, including 5,757 constable appointments now. “Our manifesto promised 20 lakh jobs, and we remain committed to that goal,” Mr. Naidu said, adding that 4 lakh jobs had already been generated across departments.
He emphasised that the recruitment process was completed in record time with digital tools and without ‘corruption of a single rupee’ through 31 writ petitions aimed at stalling the process were filed.
Stressing the link between law and order and development, Mr. Naidu said investments flow only where peace prevails. He cited approvals for investments worth 8.5 lakh crore and major industrial proposals, including MoUs signed in Visakhapatnam.
He praised Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha for efficiently steering the department and warned that crimes against women, cybercrime and drug trafficking would be dealt with firmly.
Reiterating the State government’s commitment towards empowering women, the Chief Minister also announced that women would be recruited as APSRTC bus drivers. Women are already serving APSRTC as bus conductors.
Director General of Police Harish Kumar Gupta was present at the ceremony.
Speaking on this occasion, Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan said over five lakh aspirants appeared for the examinations conducted to fill about 6,100 constable vacancies, calling the selection of 5,757 candidates a ‘moment of pride’.
The NDA government is determined to dismantle the entrenched corruption. It has granted promotions to more than 10,000 Panchayat Raj employees. We cannot give back the years to the candidates, but we stand by them,” he said, urging the new recruits to uphold discipline and integrity.
Road sanctioned
A newly recruited constable L. Babu Rao sought a road to his village in Alluri Sitharama Raju district. Acting on the Chief Minister’s direction, Mr. Pawan Kalyan announced that a ₹3.98-crore road project would be taken up immediately, drawing applause from the gathering.
