Public satisfaction is true measure of officials’ performance, says Naidu

The two-day Collectors’ Conference ended on Thursday with an assertion by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu that public satisfaction was the only true measure of the officers’ performance and announcement of surprise inspections by him beginning in January.

“Numbers do matter but I will not entirely believe them. I will soon make field visits to see for myself to what extent the  government’s promises are being delivered,” he said, reiterating that the NDA was under the obligation to fulfil the people’s wishes. 

Mr. Chandrababu Naidu said the government would fix a Welfare Calendar in April 2026 and wanted the ​Central funds to be fully utilised in order to garner additional sums for implementation of the Centrally Sponsored Schemes. He ordered that the presentations given by the Collectors of six districts on best practices related to various departments adopted by them to be followed across the State to achieve better results. 

Land disputes

He told the Collectors to duly focus on resolving the ‘22-A land disputes’, noting that they were an impediment to development in many areas, and to register cases under the Preventive Detention Act against individuals committing frauds thereof. 

The CM went on to instruct the Collectors and SPs not to tolerate political interference in land disputes, when Deputy CM K. Pawan Kalyan pointed it out by citing some specific instances in Visakhapatnam district. He exhorted the Collectors to eliminate corruption in the Registration Department. Boats should be immediately purchased for strengthening coastal security. 

Speed of Delivering Governance should be the new norm, he said, adding that the Collectors should strive to realise the potential of the respective districts in various fields. 

In a social media post, the Chief Minister said he reviewed the progress achieved in the last 18 months and reflected on key areas to strengthen governance. “Accountability to the people is central to our responsibility, and service to them is our foremost duty. Collectors are the brand ambassadors of the government. I encourage them to lead by example and continue working with commitment to improve the lives of citizens,” he stated.
