An elderly man was killed after being hit by an SUV on HAL Airport Road on Friday night.
The deceased has been identified as Jayapal, 60, a resident of HAL who worked as a housekeeping staff at HAL. The incident occurred on Friday around 11 p.m. when Jayapal was crossing the road, a short distance from the UR Rao Satellite Centre in east Bengaluru.
An SUV heading towards the Marathahalli bridge from the Domlur side hit Jayapal. He was flung some distance due to the impact and fell down leading to severe head injuries. He succumbed later.
Police said the driver did not stop the vehicle immediately. She drove some distance, halted briefly, and then proceeded directly to a nearby traffic police station.
The Jeevan Bima Nagar police have registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) section pertaining to causing death by a rash or negligent act.
The police were reviewing CCTV footage from the vicinity to establish the sequence of events.
