Kallankuthal villagers stage protest demanding basic amenities

Around 50 residents from Kallankuthal village near Chatrapatti, Madurai, staged a protest in front of the Madurai District Collectorate on Monday, expressing strong dissatisfaction over the authorities’ inaction on petitions concerning essential facilities that have remained unaddressed for more than several months.

P. Alagarsaamy, District Secretary of the Aathi Thamizhar Katchi, urged immediate government intervention to resolve long-standing issues related to drinking water, sewage, toilet facilities, community hall, general cemetery, and electricity connections, which they claim were neglected for months together.

During the protest, Alagarsaamy stated that the Scheduled Caste community in this village has been living there for more than 70 years, with over 100 families still deprived of even basic civic infrastructure like road and drinking water.

He added that several petitions have been submitted to officials in the past, but no tangible action had followed.

“We appeal to the District Collector to personally visit our village and order the concerned authorities to take prompt action to provide the essential facilities our community desperately needs,” he added.

As the protest intensified briefly police detained the demonstrators and later released them.
