Ramanathapuram Collector office receives hoax bomb threat

A bomb detection squad conducted searches at the Collector’s office following a bomb threat received by email at the office. However, the search revealed the threat to be a hoax

An email was received at the Collector’s official address in the morning, claiming a bomb had been planted inside the premises. The Superintendent of Police was immediately alerted.

Several key offices, including Collector, District Revenue Officer, and Additional Collector, are located within the new Collectorate building. At the time the threat was received, Collector Simranjeet Singh Kahlon, District Revenue Officer Sankaranarayanan, and various department heads, along with over a hundred employees, were on duty inside the buildings.

Around 1:30 p.m., the bomb detection squad arrived with a sniffer dog and first inspected the vehicles parked on the premises. Subsequently, they conducted a thorough search of the Collector’s office and other departments using metal detectors and the sniffer dog. The search concluded around 3:45 p.m. confirming that the bomb threat was a hoax.

Asked about the incident, Mr. Simranjeet Singh Kahlon said the search was conducted as a precautionary measure. Several key offices received similar threats by email, police said, adding the Cyber Crime cell was investigating them.
