A remand prisoner allegedly assaulted two prison officers inside the sub jail at Mattancherry after he reportedly got enraged by the officers’ instructions to return to his cell after breakfast.

Thanzeer, an accused in a few cases, reportedly attacked assistant prison officers Rijumon Silvester and Binu Narayanan near the jail’s guard office around 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday (December 23, 2025). A case was registered by the Mattancherry police based on a complaint filed by the injured officers later in the day.

According to the first information report, Thanzeer struck Mr. Silvester on the right hand with an iron lid of a vessel storing potable water. He went on to twist the right arm of Mr. Narayanan. Both the officers suffered fractures in the alleged assault.

The accused also threatened to eliminate the officers upon release from jail. He has been remanded in judicial custody after being arrested in a case registered by the Thoppumpady police for obstructing police officers from discharging their duties, police sources said.

He was booked on charges including voluntarily causing grievous hurt, assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of duty, and criminal intimidation under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
