The State government has invited agri-business companies to partner with Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs) under the World Bank-assisted Kerala Climate Resilient Agri-Value Chain Modernisation (KERA) project. The initiative will offer grant support of up to ₹2 crore per alliance for production investment and business development.
Eligible companies will receive financial assistance along with three years of technical support. The programme aims to create structured market linkages that connect Kerala’s premium agricultural produce to local, national and international markets, ensuring that farmers receive better prices and a secure market linkage.
A total of 150 productive alliances are proposed across the State in three phases. In the first phase, around 50 alliances would be set up in the northern districts of Kasaragod, Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode, and Malappuram.
Companies seeking to participate must have a minimum annual turnover of ₹10 crore and prior experience in working with farmer communities in Kerala. Farmer producer companies eligible for the programme should have at least three years’ working experience, a minimum membership of 200 farmers and an annual turnover of ₹10 lakh.
According to officials, the initiative is part of a broader effort to modernise agricultural value chains in the State while promoting climate-resilient practices. By facilitating partnerships with the private sector, the government expects to reduce market risks faced by farmers and create sustainable and scalable models of collaboration.
