Member of the Legislative Council Shashil Namoshi has alleged that key issues concerning the Kalyana Karnataka region were largely ignored during the recent Winter Session in Belagavi despite the stated agenda that it was meant to address the concerns of North Karnataka.
Addressing a press conference in Kalaburagi on Friday, Mr. Namoshi said that the region continues to lag behind in terms of poverty alleviation, basic infrastructure, education and irrigation but these issues did not receive adequate attention during the session.
He said that while the session was projected as one focusing on North Karnataka, budgetary allocations and discussions remained largely centred on Belagavi and Hubballi.
He also criticised the State government for failing to properly implement the 8% reservation mandated under Article 371(J) in State-level recruitments for candidates belonging to Kalyana Karnataka region.
Posts earmarked for the Kalyana Karnataka region are being shown as backlog vacancies and later diverted to the general category. This is serious injustice and deliberate conspiracy against the youth from the region, he added.
Mr. Namoshi also pointed out that government employees from Kalyana Karnataka are facing discrimination in promotions, with the roster system not being followed as per the rules.
