State-wide synchronised wetland bird census commences

The two-day annual exercise of bird census carried out involving non-governmental organisations, bird experts, nature lovers, volunteers and students of educational institutions, has commenced in Thanjavur district on Saturday.

The exercise commenced at the crack of dawn at the wetlands at Grand Anicut, Kallaperambur, Thenperambur, Samudhram Lake, Maraneri, Chellappanpettai and Allur Lake simultaneously by different teams.

On Sunday, birds census would be conducted at the wetlands identified for this purpose by the Forest Department in Kumbakonam region, according to official sources.
