The State Cabinet on Monday gave its nod to the latest proposal submitted by SPSR Nellore district administration to take the stalled Dagadarthi airport project forward.
The airport project has been in the news for over two decades. Of the 1,300 acres required for the project, the district machinery identified 882 acres of government land, but the remaining 418 acres in Damavaram, an Inam village, got entangled in legal hassles.
The farmers, who have been the perpetual lease holders of the alleged land, moved the court and even got a stay in 2017. Ever since, the authorities have been trying for rapprochement.
District Collector Himanshu Shukla, who held multiple meetings with the stakeholders, arrived at a consensus solution of paying ₹13 lakh per acre for the 418 acres in question.
Mr. Shukla formally thanked the Nellore MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy, Ministers Ponguru Narayana and Anam Ramanarayana Reddy and MLC Beeda Ravichandra for playing a key role in taking the proposal forward.
