Eight injured as omni bus rams sand laden lorry

Eight passengers were injured after an omni bus bound for Rameswaram from Chennai rammed a sand-laden lorry on Tiruchi – Karaikudi national highway at Melur in the district in the early hours of Tuesday. 

The accident occured after the bus driver apparently tried to overtake the lorry that was proceeding ahead. The bus rammed the lorry causing injuries to eight passengers including a one-year-old child, said police sources.

The lorry overturned in the impact of the collision while the bus suffered severe damage. The injured were admitted to the Pudukottai Government Medical College Hospital . The Vellanur police are investigating.
