The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday arrested a mandal surveyor attached to the Tahsildar’s office in Nirmal mandal for demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹7,500 for an official favour related to land demarcation.
The accused officer, identified as N. Bala Krishna Varma, was trapped by the Adilabad Range ACB after he demanded the bribe for carrying out demarcation of land and handing over the panchanama pertaining to the complainant’s father-in-law. The bribe was accepted through a private person, identified as Pola Nagaraju, who was acting as an assistant to the public servant.
The ACB said the surveyor had initially demanded ₹15,000 and accepted ₹5,000 as part payment, later insisting on the remaining ₹10,000. Following a request from the complainant, the amount was reduced to ₹7,500. The tainted cash was recovered from the possession of the private individual at the instance of the surveyor.
Both the surveyor and the private person were arrested and will be produced before the special court for SPE and ACB cases in Karimnagar. Further investigation is under way.
The ACB reiterated its appeal to the public to report any demand for bribe by public servants by calling the toll-free number 1064, assuring that the identity of complainants would be kept confidential.
