ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI), Tuticorin Regional Station, conducted a “Swachhta Pakhwada” programme on the station premises between December 16 and December 31.
As a part of “Swachhta Pakhwada”, a workshop for farmers was organised, with the participation of fishermen. The programme primarily focused on sustainable mariculture farming practices in the country.
D. Linga Prabhu, senior scientist, explained the climate smart mariculture for “Viksit Bharat” and emphasised the importance of formulated feeds with fishmeal replacement using agricultural by-products. He also introduced the formulated feeds developed by ICAR-CMFRI to popularise use of formulated feed instead of conventional trash fish use for sea cage farming.
The programme also featured the distribution of 100 litre ice boxes to scheduled caste beneficiaries from Veerapandiyapattinam. It also hosted an awareness programme on “Recycling & Reuse of Household Waste and Water.”
