Andhra Pradesh’s power sector is making steady strides towards net zero carbon emissions, while advancing the Swarna Andhra–2047 vision, Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand has said.
Speaking at the joint inauguration of New Year diaries and calendars of all State power utilities on Wednesday, Mr. Vijayanand emphasised sustainability, efficiency, and affordability as the pillars of the sector’s transformation.
Mr. Vijayanand highlighted the State’s achievements, including reducing distribution losses to 9.6% and AP-TRANSCO losses to 2.6%, with system availability exceeding 99.9%. He also noted AP-GENCO’s improved plant performance and cost reductions, lowering average power procurement from ₹5.19 per unit to ₹4.90 per unit, resulting in immediate consumer savings. The State aims to further reduce costs to ₹4.60 per unit next year and below ₹4 per unit by 2029.
On renewable energy, approvals for 88–90 GW of projects, including solar, wind, hybrids, storage, green hydrogen, and ammonia, have surpassed the initial 76 GW target. Officials stressed coordinated efforts among generation, transmission, distribution, and renewable agencies to realise operational capacity by 2029.
The Chief Secretary also praised the extension of reliable electricity to remote and tribal areas under the PM-JANMAN programme and lauded utilities for maintaining uninterrupted 24×7 services.
