Saudi envoy says leader of Yemen separatist group STC blocked delegation’s landing in Aden

Saudi ‍Arabia’s ambassador ​to Yemen said on ‌Friday ​(January 2, 2026) that Aidarus Al-Zubaidi, the leader of Yemen’s UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council, refused landing ​permission the ⁠previous day for a plane carrying ​a ⁠Saudi delegation to Aden.

Mr. Zubaidi issued directives to close ‌air traffic ‌at Aden airport, the ambassador, ‍Mohammed Al-Jaber, added in ‍a posting on X.

Flights were halted on Thursday (January 1, 2025) at Yemen’s Aden international airport, the ⁠main international gateway for regions ​of the ⁠country outside Houthi control.
