The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) launched a drive to collect property tax by physically inspecting properties on Friday.

The drive started with three revenue wards of Attavar, Hampankatta, and Padavu.

Corporation Commissioner Ravichandra Naik and Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Akshata Kuppagal launched the drive at Attavar.

Ms. Kuppagal said that teams outsourced by the civic body for field visits and headed by revenue inspectors of the corporation would visit properties to check whether taxes have been paid or not. If not paid, the team members would help the property owners to fill the tax payment form to pay taxes.

If paid, the team members would check whether taxes have been paid properly as stipulated based on the type of flooring (such as granite, tiles), whether the property (house) is rented out or self-occupied by the owner, she said.

The field visits would help the civic body understand whether some properties exist or not, such as in cases of demolitions of buildings. The visits would help assess how many new properties had remained out of the property tax net. “As the city keeps changing, so does properties with additions and deletions,” she said.

Ms. Kuppagal, who is also the Chief Accounts Officer (CAO) at the corporation, said that the corporation selected the three revenue wards for the collection and inspection by categorising as residential (Attavar), commercial (Hampankatta), and industrial (Padavu). Once the survey of three wards was competed, the same would be extended to other wards in phases.

She said that the collection of property tax during 2025-26 stood at ₹103.58 crore (92.44 %) till December 31, 2025 as against the demand of ₹112 crore.

During the survey, the team members are also collecting information on water meter sequence number and electricity meter number (RR Number) of houses. In addition, they will collect information on whether buildings have drainage connection (connected to sewer network of MCC) or not.
