Young Indians (Yi) Madurai, under its Climate Change vertical, had initiated a pond restoration project at Vadagarai village near Thirumangalam in Madurai district. The project involves the restoration of a one-acre pond with an estimated average depth of five-feet, capable of holding approximately five lakh litres of rainwater. The pond would serve as a vital rainwater harvesting structure, supporting groundwater recharge and providing a sustainable water source for trees and the surrounding ecosystem. This initiative reflects Yi Madurai’s commitment to climate action and community-led environmental conservation, aimed at strengthening local water security and promoting long-term ecological balance, a press release issued on Thursday said.
