The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) on Thursday removed encroachments at two locations, safeguarding a park in Gachibowli, and restoring a blocked road in Shamirpet – following complaints from residents.
In Gachibowli’s Telecom Nagar, a layout was approved in 1982 with over 32 acres by the then Hyderabad Urban Development Authority for BSNL employees. Of this, 4,000 square yards were earmarked for a park. Over the years, about 1,500 square yards were encroached upon, with houses coming up, while attempts were also made to convert the remaining 2,500 square yards too as residential plots.
After residents approached HYDRAA through Prajavani grievance redressal platform, teams comprising HYDRAA, Revenue and GHMC officials conducted a field inspection upon instructions from the HYDRAA chief A.V. Ranganath, whereupon the land was confirmed as park space.
While existing residential structures were excluded, encroachments on the remaining 2,500 square yards were removed on Thursday. Boards were installed identifying the land as a park and the land was fenced off.
In another instance, HYDRAA cleared road encroachments in Friends Colony at Shamirpet in Medchal–Malkajgiri district. The colony layout, approved in 1987 with over 4.20 acres, includes a 20-foot-wide road that had been encroached upon blocking access via the Shamirpet police station road.
Following a complaint, HYDRAA verified the encroachment on the ground and removed the obstructions on Thursday, restoring access for residents.
