BJP MP criticizes Congress govt for disturbance during joint legislature session in Karnataka

Shivamogga MP B.Y. Raghavendra has criticized the Congress government in Karnataka for the disturbance soon after Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot’s address to the joint legislature session, at Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru on January 22.

Addressing a press conference in Shivamogga on January 23, Mr. Raghavendra said the Karnataka Legislature had a distinct reputation due to its past glory. However, the incidents that occurred on January 22 were a blot on the State. The Governor addressed the joint session in order to avoid any conflict. However, the conduct of the Congress legislators while the Governor was leaving the House, was uncalled for. There were attempts to assault the Governor. If there were no security personnel, something untoward would have happened, he said.

He took exception to the conduct of Congress MLC B.K. Hariprasad. “The Congress legislator tried to stop the Governor. He behaved that way only to please the Congress high command. Action should be taken against the legislators who exhibited unruly behaviour,” he demanded.

Defending the Governor’s action, Mr. Raghavendra stated that the State Government could make the Governor read out its achievements. “However, the Congress government attempted to use the occasion to criticize the Centre, which was unacceptable,” he remarked.
