Several Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders have accused the Congress government of harassing several of them in the name of cases as part of the latter’s political vendetta and they suggested the police to act as per the provisions of law and not on the directions of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, given from Davos.
Speaking after party working president and former minister K.T. Rama Rao going to SIT office in the phone-tapping case on Friday, Mr. Harish Rao cautioned the police officers acting in violation of law and for giving false leaks of getting repaid, even if they are retired, after BRS returns to power.
He alleged that the government had posted police officers who are near their retirement age in the SIT and they must remember that misinformation is being spread against the BRS leaders, and their self-esteem is being hurt with character assassination by getting false news published/broadcast in social media, television, newspapers.
Despite harassment with false cases, the BRS leaders will keep exposing the Congress government scams, he asserted and demanded that the Centre order an inquiry into the coal scam in Telangana in case Union Coal Minister G. Kishan Reddy has not colluded with the Chief Minister.
Former senior IPS officer and BRS general secretary R.S. Praveen Kumar said there is nothing illegal about phone-tapping in the country, and went on to add that it’s going on since the British days. The then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is on record in Parliament that the government is tapping phones of about 9,000 individuals in the country to prevent economic offences and threat to national security, he said.
As a former police officer he said that is he aware of phone-tapping and is done in every State, Mr. Kumar said and added that some police officers are kow-towing to the political games of the Chief Minister for getting promotions. The Congress leaders are even threatening industrialists at gunpoint but there is no action from the police. He suggested the police officers not become victims in the political game.
If at all an inquiry is to be done, it should be on City Police Commissioner and SIT chief V.C. Sajjanar as there are seven cases registered against him. He sought to know whether Union Home Minister Amit Shah would go on record stating that there is no phone-tapping in the country.
Former ministers P. Sabitha Indra Reddy, V. Sunitha Laxma Reddy and Talasani Srinivas Yadav, MLCs S. Madhusudana Chary, Dasoju Sravan, S. Vani Devi and Deshapathi Srinivas, MP V. Ravichandra and several others criticised the government for issuing notices to BRS leaders in the phone-tapping case after they brought out coal scam to light in the State.
