The Education Department in Yadgir has been putting in efforts to ensure considerable achievement in the SSLC examination results for the academic year 2025-26.

The district stood 33rd in the State’s ranking list last year. The officials now hope that the district would go at least two positions up this year.

Activities

The department has listed out 27 activities wherein the teachers guide students with proper teaching methods and in addition, parents are also involved to monitor the learning process of students and encourage them to study hard for better results.

Teaching by headmasters and teachers during summer vacation, strict implementation of foundation learning and numeracy and bridge sources, compensative teaching, guest teacher appointments to meet the demand, workshops for teachers and guest teachers, house visits by teachers, buddy pairing, school programmes towards the community, quiz competitions every Saturday, special classes every Sunday, drawing science subject-related pictures on the hands of students in Mehendi and also drawing Rangoli, night classes for hostellers, wake-up calls to parents as well as students and short tests at the weekend are the key activities which have been implemented to improve the results.

“We aren’t just saying verbally it but also implemented 27 different new activities to improve results,” Channabasappa S. Mudhol, Deputy Director of Public Instructions, told The Hindu over the phone.

Preparatory exams

As many as 14,894 students are enrolled for SSLC in 2025-26 and the department recently conducted preparatory examinations for them from January 5 to 10. Of the 14,894 students, 14,286 appeared for the examinations, and 10,279 (71.95%) passed, while 4,007 students failed and 608 students were absent.

Shortage of teachers.

Shortage of permanent government teachers has been attributed as one of the major reasons for poor performance in the SSLC results from many years. The district has 141 high schools where 1,548 teacher posts are sanctioned. But, of it, 852 posts are filled, and the rest remain vacant.

“Due to a shortage of permanent teachers, we have appointed guest teachers and deputed them based on the vacancies and demand. We are running classes through them where it has become necessary,” Mr. Mudhol said.
