The Avadi Tank Factory Police has arrested four men in connection with the murder of a history sheeter at Kovilpathagai in Avadi on Friday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Manikandan, 36, of Kollumedu near Avadi, a history-sheeter at the Avadi Tank Factory police station with multiple pending cases. After consuming alcohol at a Tasmac outlet in Kovilpathagai, he was walking on Anna Street. Four unidentified persons waylaid and punched him on his face. They strangled his neck after he fell to the ground and the gang fled the scene.
Upon receipt of an alert, police personnel from Avadi Tank Factory reached the spot and recovered the body. The body was sent to Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for post-mortem.
On investigation, police arrested four suspects who have been identified as Veera, 23, and his accomplices- Pratheesh alias Mano 22, Abithraj, 22, and Sakthivel, 21, of Kovilpathagai.
Police said he had a long-standing enmity with Veera of Kovilpathagai, stemming from an earlier murder of two of Veera’s associates – Azarudin and Sundar in 2022.
The two reportedly came face to face at Kovilpathagai, where an argument escalated into a physical clash. During the fight, Veera allegedly struck Manikandan on the face, knocked him down, and stomped on his neck, killing him, before fleeing. Further investigation is on.
