A 33-year-old man from Assam was beaten to death by a fellow migrant worker near Kottai Karungulam village in the district on Saturday.
Police identified the murdered man as Sufi Alam Khan from Barpeta district in Assam. He was working as a truck driver in a quarry near Kottai Karungulam village. He was allegedly beaten to death by Thamij Ali, 38, another truck driver from the same district, who was also employed at the quarry.
Early on Saturday, a verbal altercation broke out between the two in an inebriated state but was later resolved. However, Thamij Ali assaulted Sufi Alam Khan with a plastic pipe within a few hours while he was asleep. The injured man was taken to the government hospital in Valliyoor, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Police secured Thamij Ali and the body of the deceased was sent to Kanniyakumari Government Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
A case has been registered at Thisayanvilai police station. Further investigation is on.
