The Tiruchi district police have arrested a 25-year-old youth in connection with the murder of a man who was found dead with head injuries outside his house at Kaavalkaaranpatti village, under the limits of the Puthanatham police station, earlier this week. Three others, including a juvenile, have been booked in the case.
According to the police, the victim, Sivasubramanian, 51, of Kaavalkaaranpatti, was found dead with head injuries on the morning of January 20. He had reportedly slept outside his house on the night of January 19. Based on a complaint, the Puthanatham police registered a case and sent the body to the Manapparai Government Hospital for post-mortem.
A special team was formed under the supervision of Additional Superintendent of Police (CWC) Krishnan and led by Manapparai Deputy Superintendent of Police Kaviya to trace the culprits. Analysis of CCTV footage from the vicinity revealed that a youth, aged between 20 and 25, with his face and body covered and carrying an iron rod, had visited the spot around 1.20 a.m. on January 20.
Subsequent investigation revealed that Radha Krishnan, 25, of Kaavalkaaranpatti had been in a relationship for the past two years with a local girl. The police said Sivasubramanian and his relatives had objected to the relationship and had reportedly warned the girl to discontinue it. Call detail record analysis showed that Radha Krishnan and the girl were in constant contact before and after the crime.
Based on CCTV evidence and technical analysis, Radha Krishnan was secured and questioned. During interrogation, he reportedly confessed to attacking Sivasubramanian with an iron rod in a fit of rage after the latter insisted that he end the relationship. The police said the girl, a minor aged about 15, had allegedly abetted the crime.
The investigation revealed that Cheran, 20, Radha Krishnan’s younger brother, and Sivanesa Selvan, 19, of the same village had helped the accused flee by providing a two-wheeler, concealing the weapon used in the crime, and facilitating his escape by bus.
All four accused — Radha Krishnan, the juvenile girl, Cheran, and Sivanesa Selvan — have been arrested. While the three adult accused are being produced before a court for remand, the juvenile has been proceeded against under the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act.
