Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi unfurled the national flag in Chennai on Monday (January 26, 2026) in the presence of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and other dignitaries, marking the Republic Day celebrations. Earlier, the Chief Minister received the Governor on his arrival at the saluting base.
The ceremonial march past drew applause from those gathered near the Labour Statue on Kamarajar Salai.
Mr. Stalin later presented various awards. Fireman driver V. Sankar, fireman S. Rameshkumar, fireman P. Suresh and Jessy, on behalf of her late husband Peter Johnson, received the Anna Medal for Gallantry. M. Kalimula of Tiruppur district received the Kottai Ameer Award.
Farmer G. Veeramani received the Narayanasamy Naidu Paddy Productivity Award. Inspector P. Natarajan, sub-inspectors M. Sathianandan, S. Manikandan, K. Natarajan, and constable V.P. Kannan received the Gandhi Adigal police medals.
Madurai city, Tiruppur city and Coimbatore district secured the top three positions in the Chief Minister’s Trophies for the best police stations in the State.
Later, the Governor, the Chief Minister, and other dignitaries witnessed cultural performances by schoolchildren and youth. Wing Commander Paramjeet Singh Arora was the parade commander, while Flight Lieutenant Thamizhvani served as the parade adjutant.
