On the occasion of the 77th Republic Day celebrations on Monday (January 26, 2026), CPI(M) and AIKS leaders Dr. Ashok Dhawala, J.P. Gavit, former MLA, Dr. Ajit Nawale, Umesh Deshmukh and others went on a march on the Highway to Mumbai. Amidst great discipline the national flag was ceremoniously tied high to the leading truck. The crowd also gave respectful salute to the Tiranga. The long march was started on Sunday (January 25, 2026).
The leaders were accompanied by tens of thousands of marchers in the Long March from Nashik to Mumbai, which included women and men, old and young, from all tehsils of Nashik district. After the march, the National Anthem was played, with the huge mass standing in attention and gave a mass salute.
It was a truly moving to see the poorest and most exploited Adivasi and other peasants of the country celebrate Republic Day in the midst of a continuing massive struggle.
The contribution of Bharat Ratna Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar to the framing of the Constitution was recalled and the crowd paid homage to the martyrs of the freedom struggle. The march also underlined the struggles of the toiling people, and the defence of the fundamental Constitutional values of sovereignty, democracy, secularism and socialism.
After this, the march began its journey to Mumbai. The Maharashtra government on Sunday (January 25, 2026) began sending feelers to the leaders. The leaders refused to meet the feelers and Ashok Dhawale said “The march would continue till Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis hold a meeting with them and conceded the demands.”
