On the occasion of the 77th Republic Day, a group of cyclists embarked on a three-day heritage bicycle ride covering historically significant places in Tiruchi.

Around 40 cyclists, including 10 women, from the Chennai-based ‘Cycling Yogis’ participated in the heritage ride, which traced the Cauvery River trail.

Supported by the Tourism Department, the three-day bicycle ride commenced on January 24 from the city. During the journey, the group covered Thiruvellarai, Srirangam, Kallanai Dam, Poondi Madha Basilica, Koviladi, and Mukkombu, covering a total distance of over 200 km.

“We take up the heritage ride ahead of Republic Day every year. The Cauvery River trail was curated to combine riverside scenery, irrigation landmarks, and places of worship that reflect centuries-old engineering, faith, and settlements along the river. We aim to instil interest among enthusiasts to explore heritage landscapes and encourage them to take forward the initiative of bicycle tourism,” said Ramanujar Moulana, founder, Cycling Yogis.
