Silver articles weighing close to six kg were stolen from the residence of a female employee working at the Inspector General of Police’s office.
Police said, Mani, 63, a resident of Thakiyar Nagar in Thiruppuvanam, Sivaganga district, is a retired ministerial staff member of the Police Department. His wife, Nagasundari, 56, currently serves as a ministerial staff member at the Madurai IG office.
Due to Mani’s poor health, he had been admitted to a private hospital in Madurai. Taking advantage of the house being locked for the past three days, unidentified culprits monitored the premises and broke into the house on Sunday morning.
They shattered the locks and made away with six kg of silver articles, valued at approximately ₹20 lakh, which were kept in the bureau.
Upon receiving the information, Thiruppuvanam police, led by Manamadurai DSP Parthiban, conducted an on-site investigation. Fingerprint experts have collected evidence from the scene, and a search for the suspects is under way.
