Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) State general secretary P.M.A. Salam has said that the first phase of the seat-sharing talks within the United Democratic Front (UDF) for the Assembly polls will be completed soon.
He told the media on Tuesday (January 27) that the talks were going on smoothly. A meeting has been scheduled in Thiruvananthapuram within the next two days. Candidates would be finalised soon, he said.
Asked about the Nair Service Society’s decision to drop the proposed alliance with the Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana Yogam, Mr. Salam said that the organisation should find areas of unity even if they had differences of opinion with each other on many issues.
STU State conference
The State conference of the Swathanthra Thozhilali Union (STU), the trade union wing of the IUML, would be held in Kozhikode from January 31 to February 2. Panakkad Syed Sadikali Shihab Thangal, IUML State president, would open the conference at Kozhikode beach on January 31 at 5 p.m. P.K. Kunhalikutty, IUML national general secretary, and K. Muraleedharan, senior Congress leader, among others, would attend the event. The delegate conference would be held at the Jubilee Hall on February 2. Mr. Salam said that the labour sector in the country was facing a crisis, and the situation in Kerala was no different. Panel discussions would be held on labour rights, labour law amendments, and corporatisation during the conference, he added.
