The District and Sessions Court, Pathanamthitta, on Wednesday (January 28, 2026) granted bail to Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil in connection with the alleged rape of an NRI woman.
The court had earlier reserved its order on a bail plea moved by the expelled Congress legislator after the prosecution had raised doubts about the authenticity of certain digital evidence submitted by the accused. During the hearing, the defence argued that the relationship with the complainant was consensual.
Mr. Mamkootathil had been lodged in the Mavelikkara sub-jail since January 11.
This is the third rape case registered against the legislator. In the present case, the NRI woman has alleged that Mr. Mamkootathil befriended her through social media and later forced her to book a hotel room, where he allegedly raped her.
She had further stated that she became pregnant as a result of the assault and subsequently suffered a miscarriage.
Mr. Mamkootathil is currently facing three rape cases filed by three different women. The High Court is set to consider on Wednesday (today) his anticipatory bail plea in the first rape case filed against him.
