Village Administrative Officer arrested for accepting bribe in Nagapattinam

A Village Administrative Officer (VAO) was arrested by officials of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) in Nagapattinam district on Wednesday on charges of demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹30,000 for recommending a patta transfer.

The complainant, Thambiappan ,53, of Therkupoigainallur village in Nagapattinam taluk, had alleged that the accused, Sabarinathan, 34, the VAO of Therkupoigainallur, demanded money for processing and recommending his patta transfer application.

Based on the complaint, a trap was laid by the DVAC officials. When the accused allegedly accepted the bribe amount, he was caught and subsequently arrested. He was produced before a court, which remanded him to judicial custody.

The operation was carried out under the supervision of Deputy Superintendent of Police Imayavaramban. Inspector Rameshkumar and Sub-Inspectors Karthikesan and Rajamanickam were part of the team.

Further investigation is under way, DVAC officials said.
