The State government has announced formation of a seven-member committee to address the concerns raised by government employees with regard to implementation of the Employees Health Cards Scheme (EHS).

According to a press note, Minister for Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare Satya Kumar Yadav announced the decision on Thursday, keeping the assurance given by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to the employees.

In October, leaders of employees’ union had raised issues with the government regarding the delay of reimbursement of medical expenses, hospitals’ lack of interest in treating them under the scheme, among others.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had assured them that a committee would be formed to identify the shortcomings and take corrective measures.

The Health Minister finalised the committee which will be led by Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand. It will include officials from the finance and health departments, Dr. NTR Vaidya Seva Trust CEO and two representatives from employee unions.

The committee has been directed to submit a report within eight weeks on measures that to be taken to address the issues. At present, EHS has 23,58,858 beneficiaries in the State. Among them, 5,53,182 are employees and 2,29,964 are pensioners. The expenditure for the scheme, launched in 2013, is shared by both government and employees.
