Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has approved the creation of three new districts, Polavaram, Markapuram and Madanapalle, taking the total number of districts in the State from 26 to 29. The decision follows a detailed review of the recommendations submitted by the Ministers’ Committee during a meeting held at the Secretariat in Amaravati on Tuesday.
The Chief Minister also approved the formation of five new revenue divisions and a new mandal, along with several changes to existing boundaries. Additionally, Penugonda mandal in West Godavari district will henceforth be known as Vasavi Penugonda.
According to the new administrative blueprint, the proposed Polavaram district will have Rampachodavaram as its headquarters and will consist of the Rampachodavaram and Chintoor revenue divisions, covering a population of 3.49 lakh. Markapuram district will be formed by merging the Markapuram and Kanigiri revenue divisions, with a total population of 11.42 lakh. Madanapalle district will be created with the Madanapalle and Pileru revenue divisions, comprising 11.05 lakh people.
As part of the administrative restructuring, new revenue divisions will be established at Nakkapalli in Anakapalli district, Addanki in the reorganised Prakasam district, Pileru in the new Madanapalle district, Banaganapalle in Nandyal district and Madakasira in Sri Sathya Sai district. A new mandal, Pedda Harivanam, will be carved out of Adoni mandal in Kurnool district.
Changes in jurisdiction
The government has also approved changes in jurisdiction across multiple districts, including shifting mandals between revenue divisions and reorganising Assembly segments to streamline governance. Several mandals in Srikakulam, Anakapalli, Kakinada, Konaseema, West Godavari, Bapatla, Prakasam, Nellore, Chittoor, Kadapa, Sri Sathya Sai and Nandyal districts will now fall under revised revenue setups. The Addanki Assembly constituency will be merged with Prakasam district, and a new Addanki revenue division will be created by combining mandals from Addanki and Darsi segments.
The Ministers’ Committee confirmed that nine districts — Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram Manyam, Visakhapatnam, Eluru, Krishna, NTR, Guntur, Palnadu and Anantapur — will remain unchanged.
The proposals cleared by the Chief Minister will be placed before the next Cabinet meeting. After the Cabinet approval, an official notification will be issued to formalise the new districts and revenue divisions.
