A Mangaluru police team on November 25 arrested T. Dinesh Shetty, who had failed to appear before courts in three criminal cases.
In a press release, the police said Shetty and two others were sentenced to life by the Third Additional District and Sessions Court, Mangaluru, on November 25, 2015, after they were found guilty of taking ‘supari’ of ₹5 lakh from underworld operatives Ravi Poojary and Khali Yogish and murdering advocate Naushad Kashimji near Britto Lane junction in Mangaluru on April 8, 2009. After serving a sentence for 11 years, Shetty filed an appeal before the Karnataka High Court, which acquitted him. He was released from prison.
However, Shetty was booked by the Kavoor police in a kidnap case in 2019, by Mangaluru North police in a cheating case in 2022, and an extortion case in 2023. He failed to appear before jurisdictional courts in all three cases and non-bailable warrants were issued.
A team led by Assistant Commissioner of Police (North) Srikanth traced Shetty and arrested him on November 25, the police said.
