Accused injured during bid to escape by jumping from court building in Erode

An accused in the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) case attempted to escape by jumping from the first floor of the district court building here on Wednesday (November 5, 2025).

The accused, identified as Karthi from Anthiyur, had been brought from the Coimbatore Central Prison to the court for hearing. The police said during the court proceedings, Karthi suddenly jumped from the first floor in an attempt to flee from custody. In the fall, he sustained a hip bone fracture and was immediately rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment with police protection. Further investigations are under way.
