Geo-political disruption has been there for long; only in an inter-connected world, the global impact is quickly noticeable. Moving on from the victim mindset, and adapting to the new situation ought to be the way forward, All India Management Association president T.V. Narendran, the global CEO and Managing Director of Tata Steel, said on Friday.
Elaborating on diverse topics, including the strides made by China in manufacturing, the collapse of Soviet Union, the narrative of liberal democracy versus communism, and concentration of wealth, Mr. Narendran spoke about how discontent among the blue-collared populations due to income inequality had led to economic and cultural backlashes, eventually causing supply-chain disturbances in the realm of manufacturing.
The service sector that could flourish since there was no dependence on physical infrastructure, has also been impacted by the new tariff and import duties, Mr. Narendran said, delivering a talk on ‘Leadership in the Times of Geopolitical and Technological Disruption’ at GRG School of Management Studies, PSGR Krishnammal College for Women.
On Technological Disruption, Mr. Narendran said it has helped democratise knowledge. It has opened up great opportunities to learn and upgrade, for those in leadership positions staying open-minded and being connected to the developments.
Both top-down and bottom-up approaches are required for sustainability. Every technological disruption is both a risk and opportunity, he said.
Nithyanandan Devaraaj, president, Coimbatore Management Association, also spoke.
