Vice-Chancellor of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University in Andhra Pradesh S. Vijaya Bhaskar Rao on Thursday announced that the admission will start immediately after securing approval of the University Grants Commission (UGC).

He was addressing officials and staff of the new Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Open University at the office of Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE).

Saying that key measures required for developing the university were being taken up, he urged officers and staff to extend their full cooperation. He said details of the teaching faculty and university staff across 76 open university centres in the State had already been collected and they were now being digitised as part of a comprehensive computerisation process.

He said the university was ready to introduce new courses that were useful to students and would help them find employment. UGC approvals for these courses will be sought soon, he added.

Mr. Rao said the open university had played a transformative role over the years, as it had enabled thousands of learners, including those in remote rural areas, to pursue higher education through distance learning and emphasised the university’s commitment to expanding its services in Andhra Pradesh and offering more quality courses in the coming years.

He also acknowledged certain issues faced by the staff and said steps had already been initiated to resolve them. He expressed gratitude to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Minister for Education Nara Lokesh for their support in strengthening and advancing the university.
