The Tamil Nadu Rice Research Institute, Aduthurai, conducted a training programme “Value addition in mesta”, a commercial crop, for the benefit of delta farmers.
According to a TRRI release, the advantages of raising the mesta crop was explained at the programme sponsored by the All India Network Project on Jute and Allied Fibres (AINP-JAF), ICAR-Central Research Institute for Jute and Allied Fibres (CRIJAF), Barrackpore, West Bengal, on the TRRI premises at Aduthurai on November 26.
Participants were explained about the mesta cultivation practices and the importance of natural fibres to replace the synthetic fibres. A brief demonstration on various crafts making techniques for manufacturing/producing products such as basket, flowers, photo frame, necklace, flower vase, wall hangings, parrot, and others utilising mesta fibre. A hands-on training session were held, the release added.
