The National Zoological Park in the Capital saw more than 23,000 visitors over the weekend after it reopened its gates to the public on November 8 following a two-month long closure due to a bird flu scare.

The zoo saw 8,065 visitors, including 954 students from 12 schools, on Saturday. The footfall rose significantly on Sunday with 15,292 visitors, among whom were 262 students from five schools.

To mark the reopening, the zoo launched an ‘Insta Ticket Booking Service’, allowing visitors to book tickets instantly by scanning a QR code at the entry gate. The new system supports UPI payments and cards, in order to make the entry swifter and hassle-free. The previous facility of booking online tickets earlier continues to remain functional. The zoo will remain open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

In September, 12 birds in the zoo had been found dead. Some of the birds had tested positive for H5N1, a strain of the influenza virus, which prompted the authorities to close the zoo.
