The AIADMK has demanded a detailed inquiry into the alleged irregularities in procurement of sub-standard medicines in Puducherry that is currently being investigated by the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) unit for alleged corruption.

Speaking to reporters here on Saturday (November 8, 2025), AIADMK Puducherry unit secretary A. Anbalagan said former Chief Minister V. Vaithilingam and a former Minister in the Congress government had issued statements over the issue. The Lt. Governor K. Kailashnathan should order a detailed inquiry to unravel the truth, he said.

Mr. Anbalagan said Chief Minister N. Rangasamy had announced several welfare schemes in the recently-concluded Assembly session, including monthly financial assistance of ₹2,500 for families with red ration cards, ₹1,000 per month for families with yellow ration cards and increase in aid of ₹500 for senior citizens, widows and destitute women.

With Assembly elections nearing, the government should ensure that the announcements made on the floor of the Assembly are implemented. The announcements would entail an additional expenditure of ₹360 crore annually and the government should allocate the required funds immediately, he said.

He also criticised the government for failing to open 31 shops constructed in the renovated bus terminus in Puducherry and said that difference of opinion between the Lt. Governor and the Chief Minister had caused the delay.

The AIADMK also urged the Puducherry Government to take proactive steps to secure the release of 29 fishermen from Karaikal who were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy a few months ago.
