Amid the ongoing dispute between PMK founder S. Ramadoss and his estranged son Anbumani Ramadoss, the Election Commission of India (EC) has formally communicated that the latter remains the president of the party.
Following a dispute raised by the supporters of Dr. Ramadoss, the EC, in an official communication addressed to the PMK founder, on Thursday, said: “As per the records of the Commission, the term of office-bearers of the Pattali Makkal Katchi is valid up to August 1, 2026, and Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss is the president of the party.”
The poll body advised Dr. Ramadoss’s faction to approach the appropriate party forum or competent court to settle the matter regarding the office-bearers of the party.
The EC was responding to communications from Dr. Ramadoss’s supporters dated September 16, 17, 23, and 24, October 6 and 8, and November 3 and 6 this year, which claimed that Dr. Anbumani’s term as president expired on May 28, 2025 and Dr. Ramadoss was elected the president of the party on May 30, 2025.
A senior leader said: “Almost all of the office-bearers have remained with Dr. Anbumani. Now, the EC’s communication has put a full stop over who is the legitimate president of the party.”
