PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss has written to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu requesting the latter to provide 6% separate reservation in higher education and employment for the Vanniya Kula Kshatriya and Agnikula Kshatriya communities in the State.
“Among communities with a substantial population in Andhra Pradesh, the Vanniya Kula Kshatriyas and Agnikula Kshatriyas are notable. Within these two broader communities, there are 15 sub-sects. In terms of education and employment, the Vanniyar community and its sub-sects remain severely backward. The primary reason for this is their inability to compete with other communities placed alongside them in the existing reservation categories,” Dr. Anbumani said in his letter dated November 29.
“Out of the total 6.5 crore population of Andhra Pradesh, the combined share of Agnikula Kshatriyas, Vanniya Kula Kshatriyas, and their sub-sects is 9.34%. However, their representation in education and government employment is estimated to be less than 2%,” he said. In his letter, he also requested that a caste-wise population census be conducted and, based on the data obtained, declare the Vanniyar community and its sub-sects as a separate reservation category, and allot 6% exclusive reservation to them.
In a separate letter to Mr. Naidu, Dr. Anbumani requested Kakinada district be named after the late educational philanthropist Malladi Sathyalinka Nayakar, in fulfilment of the long-cherished wish of the majority of the district’s people.
