Andhra Pradesh BJP president P. V. N. Madhav criticised the Congress party and the Nehru family for “repeatedly violating and undermining” the Indian Constitution.
Speaking at a Constitution Day programme at the BJP State office in Vijayawada on Wednesday, Mr. Madhav said the Constitution should be upheld in spirit rather than celebrated only as a ritual. Along with BJP leaders and party cadre, he paid floral tributes to Dr. B. R. Ambedkar by garlanding his portrait. The Constitution book was specially decorated for the occasion, and slogans of “Jai Bhim” echoed through the hall.
Mr. Madhav alleged that the Congress regime had systematically humiliated Ambedkar and weakened his ideals. He claimed that Ambedkar aspired to serve as Finance Minister, but the Congress deliberately offered him the Law Ministry and later undermined him in elections by allegedly converting about 75,000 votes into invalid ballots.
He criticised the Congress for observing Children’s Day in Jawaharlal Nehru’s name instead of acknowledging Ambedkar’s global leadership. In contrast, he said, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government had honoured Ambedkar’s legacy by implementing reforms inspired by his vision and strengthening cooperative federalism.
The BJP leader said that while Congress governments had amended the Constitution over 80 times, the NDA governments had made only eight amendments, each intended for meaningful reform.
Describing Ambedkar as the “Modern Manu,” Mr. Madhav urged citizens to understand the Constitution’s deeper purpose, noting that constitutional ideals yield results only under good leadership. He also commended the Uttar Pradesh government for promoting awareness programmes rather than merely declaring holidays on Ambedkar’s anniversaries.
The event was presided over by NTR district president Addoori Sri Ram and attended by senior BJP leaders including Boddu Nagalakshmi, Paturi Nagabhushan, Sheikh Baji, Syed Basha, and others.
