The Andhra Pradesh government has constituted a six-member High-Level Working Group to accelerate reforms in urban planning, research, and capacity building under the Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Department. The panel has been formed as part of the Memorandum of Understanding signed on September 26, 2025, between the department and the School of Planning and Architecture, Vijayawada (SPAV), an Institution of National Importance under the Ministry of Education.
The group comprises three senior officials from the department — the Additional Director in the Office of the Commissioner and Director of Municipal Administration, who will serve as Chairman; the Additional Director of the Directorate of Town and Country Planning; and the Chief Technical Officer of APUIAML — along with three nominated faculty members from SPAV. The collaboration is aimed at strengthening planning, governance, and project preparation across Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), Urban Development Authorities (UDAs), and related agencies.
Principal Secretary S. Suresh Kumar said on Monday that the partnership would bring academic expertise directly into municipal systems, facilitating evidence-based planning. He issued G.O. Rt No. 1319 constituting the group.
