The police have arrested the owner of an archery training academy in Coimbatore on the charge of sexually assaulting a minor girl, a few years ago.
The arrested has been identified as Kishore Kumar, 35, a resident of Maharani Avenue at Vadavalli. The police said the accused ran an archery academy near the city, offering training for students.
A minor girl, who was a student of the academy, stopped training at the facility a few years ago. The girl took part in an archery competition event held earlier this month and Kumar was present at the venue. The girl, according to the police, had a panic attack and fainted after seeing Kumar, said the police.
When the parents and others inquired about the incident, the girl disclosed that Kumar had sexually assaulted her on the pretext of giving training in his academy, following which she discontinued the training.
The girl’s mother lodged a complaint with the All Women Police Station (AWPS), Coimbatore west, on Friday (November 21, 2025). A case was registered against Kumar for offences under Sections 9 l (whoever commits sexual assault on the child more than once or repeatedly), 9 o (whoever, being in the ownership or management or staff, of any institution providing services to the child, commits sexual assault on the child in such institution) read with 10 (punishment for aggravated sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
A team headed by AWPS Inspector P. Parimala Devi arrested Kumar on Saturday (November 22, 2025). He was produced before a court and was sent to judicial remand, the police said.
