Following the Delhi Red Fort car blast that claimed at least 12 lives, Tamil Nadu government has kept several key locations and districts on high alert for prevention of any unpleasant events.  

As per the instruction, Ramanathapuram Superintendent of Police G. Chandeesh in the early hours of Tuesday, speaking to the press, said, they have assigned armed police to guard the Sri Ramanathaswamy temple in Rameswaram.  

“As Rameswaram is known for its temples, where thousands of tourists from various parts of the country would be visiting every day, all important temples, including the Managalanathaswamy Temple in Thiru Uthirakosamangai, have been provided high security after the alert,” he added.  

Further, according to the direction of the Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and higher authorities, SP, all Deputy Superintendent of Police, Additional Superintendent of Police, and other officers, are patrolling important locations and areas in the district.  “For this purpose, 23 check posts in and around the district are kept active, 12 teams of police personnel are on duty to patrol and monitor important residential and commercial spots,” he added.  

About 15 patrol vehicles would be on movement to ensure vigil monitoring in places inaccessible by other police teams, he noted. 

“Dog squad teams have already frisked Temples, railway stations, bus stands, key public gathering spots, as part of the anti-sabotage security check,” he said.  

Also, he specified that coastal areas were under constant and vigil monitoring by the central security forces including the Navy. 

“All necessary steps are being taken by the Police Department in the district to keep the district free from any untoward incident,” he said.
