The Indian Army has apprehended a Bangladeshi national employed as a civilian labourer at the Bengdubi military station near Siliguri in north Bengal, officials said on Friday (November 7, 2025).
A senior military official stated that, as per established procedure, all individuals entering the military station are required to undergo security checks. During a standard reverification exercise on Thursday (November 6), civilian workers engaged by a contractor for construction activities inside the station were subjected to routine verification.
“During the reverification drive, the individual aroused suspicion. On further scrutiny, he was found to be carrying identity documents issued by the Bangladesh government. A thorough frisking also led to the recovery of an Aadhaar card, PAN card and voter ID card issued in India,” the official said.
He was subsequently questioned by the Military Police at the station, and further inquiry confirmed his Bangladeshi nationality, the official added.
The suspect has since been handed over to the local police for further investigation. Meanwhile, military intelligence units have intensified verification of credentials of all civilian workers currently employed within the military premises.
