Marking World Heritage Week, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) organised a heritage walk and clean-up drive at the Brihadeeswarar Temple (Big Temple) in Thanjavur on Sunday.

World Heritage Week is observed from November 19 to 25 every year. In connection with this, ASI officials and volunteers carried out conservation awareness activities within the temple complex, a Unesco World Heritage Site.

The programme was led by P. Aravazhi, Superintending Archaeologist (in-charge); V. Muthukumar, Assistant Superintending Archaeologist; P. Suresh Babu, Conservation Assistant; and S. Sankar, Senior Conservation Assistant.

A large number of heritage enthusiasts, volunteers, devotees, and NCC cadets participated in clearing waste, removing overgrowth, and cleaning various sections of the temple premises.

Participants took a pledge to safeguard heritage monuments and ensure their preservation for future generations.
