A 48-year-old assistant jailer was placed under suspension in Salem district on Friday.

Allegations were raised against Sankari sub-jail assistant jailer M.S. Dhanalakshmi (48) that though eggs and spinach were provided for the prisoners, fake bills were generated. She also provided expired grocery items and oil for cooking and allegedly threatened prisoners’ relatives to give money to meet the kin lodged in the jail.

Based on the allegations, Salem Central Prison Superintendent (in-charge), G. Vinoth, inspected the Sankari sub-jail on Thursday evening and checked the bill books and inquired with the staff. He found prima facie evidence regarding the allegations. Following this, on Friday, Mr. Vinoth issued suspension order on Dhanalakshmi.
